EPPAX : being punished for small mistakes
PETALING JAYA: Indian Muslim restaurant owners feel as if they are being punished for small mistakes when submitting the applications to bring in foreign workers. Currently owners are disappointed with EPPAX , and have complained to PRESMA’s president, Mr Ayoob Khan, since their applications have been rejected. Ayoob Khan said that PRESMA was “unhappy” with the statement by Human Resources Ministry saying that there was no freeze in the recruitment of foreign workers. He has issued a statement that PRESMA with 11 other NGOs will launch a peace rally regarding foreign workers issue. He added that there was little help in helping employers navigate the Foreign Workers Integrated Management System (ePPAx), which was introduced in 2017. Malaysia Nanban Daily’s masthead on 13 May 2019 was about problems faced by business owners due to shortage of foreign workers. The Daily insists that while government is trying to reduce the number of foreign workers in Malaysia, it should also take action to avoid closure of industries due to shortage of man power. Businesses which mainly rely on foreign workers . such as restaurant, recycle centre, jewellery design, agriculture, construction, manufacturing and plantation are facing heavy drop due to lack of man power. Foreign workers found working at petrol stations, hotel industry, municipality as cleaners, golf course , super markets, mini markets, luxury condominiums are cleaners, security guards. Government should find ways to provide job placement to locals in these areas. If more locals are employed in these industries, government may approve more foreign workers to restaurants and recycling centres. During previous government’s ruling, all industrial associations’ representatives conducted dialogues with government and managed find solutions. Anyway, owners of25% of the restaurants closed
News On Malaysia Nanban Newspaper ( Tamil ) Date 13 May 2019 The previous government has ceased bringing foreign workers into Malaysia. We believed that Pakatan Harapan will bring solution to our problems after in took over the government. 4 ministers representing Indians, gave us more hope . At the same time numerous Memorandums have been sent to various government departments with regards to problems faced by Indian traders. We believed foreign workers problem will be solved , and waited with hope. It has been a year Pakatan Harapan took over government. But we haven’t found any solution to our problems. This has resulted in discontent over the new government, said Mr Ayoob Khan. Foreign workers shortage affects not only food industry, but more than 11 industries, run by Indians. But government is not listening to Indian trader’s issues. This results in closure of 25% of restaurants. If this situation prolongs, Indian traders will face a big loss. Having 4 ministers is a pride to us but what is the use ? Previously when Dato Seri Samyvellu, was a minister, has addressed problems faced by Indians, at Parliament . Later, 2 more Indian ministers have voiced out for Indians. But they were criticized . But now, even having 4 ministers, we don’t have any idea whom can we channel our problems to. At the same time, Ministry of Human Resources and Ministry of Home Affairs are not taking any actions regarding foreign workers problems. We lost hope on these ministries. We are preparing to have a meeting with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia’s prime minister. If we are unable to do so, 11 Indian Industry representatives will join hands to launch peace rally said Mr Ayoob Khan. Meanwhile As Salam restaurant owner Dato Hakim said : I have involved in restaurant business for quite long. I am forced to close 3 shops due to shortage of workers problems. But I am still paying the rent, hoping to obtain foreign workers approval. I have no idea what to do next.Online media also has released similar news in Tamil Read at : http://www.tamillens.com/single_news/167 http://www.anegun.com/?p=32307
